3:09 pm - Vroom?
|
My login thing says 12 weeks since I last updated. Oops. For the last 12 weeks, I have mostly been working and loafing. The odd trip to the Vic (including a bit since with fiendil and Val) and a couple of fillums. Still after seeing Simpsons, Transformers, and possibly Hairspray (joys of cinema card).
Had last week off work, as Rich was off and about for most of it. Red is feeling her age again, appaernly something to do with downpipes, fork oil seals, front bearings and a few other bits.
Went car shopping with poeple who know about this sort of thing (my brother) over the weekend, and I bought myself a cute little Yaris :) So in a week or so I will have power steering!!!!!!!! Hell yes. Most money I have ever spent on one thing though. The fear. Oh well, maybe this is that rainy day I have been saving for :) (apparently thats tomorrow or weds, tho the clouds don't look good now)

10:16 am - Mr Sandman, bring me a dream....
|
Been a good week, all in all.
Last Tues, saw fiendil and auntyalyson for the first time in a long while and a not so long while respectively. With a few other people, went for a meal in Bella Pasta. Shame I wasn't feeling a lot more sociable, and went home after the meal rather than out to the pub, but was feeling a bit kak. The food was good, the conversation was loud. Shame i didn't get to spend more time talking to fiendil but hopefully he will be back again soon :)
No film weds last week, but did go see Spiderman 3 over the weekend. Not bad. Maybe too many storylines all at once, but maybe the problem with the showing we went to was the fact that some people had brought youngish kids in with them (8 or 9 years old), which is allowed with a 12A (parental discretion and all that) but they got upset sometimes, or bored and started charging about.
Not a lot on tonight that looks gripping, but a mate said Blades of Glory was a giggle, so just have to persuade dog_o_war that its a good idea :)

4:29 pm - cow-print babies (not mine!)
|
dog_o_war's little sister had her baby a couple of weeks back, and i got to meet him at the weekend. Small amount of puke on babygro number one meant he was changed, and he came back weatring a cow-print babygro. I have never felt maternal or cooed over babies, but he really did look quiet adorable. Still happy to hand him back tho.
Have been trying to get more use out of the Cineworld card, now bird is working different hours. 300 last night. Utter pish. Never a good sign when you find yourself checking your watch 30 minutes into a film. Hopefully Curs of the golden Flower will be better. Saw the trailer for Pirates 3, which could be worth a look :)
Found a new thing to try beat hayfever into submission with this year...Haymax pollen blocker. not too bad so far, guess the clincher will be whether i can breathe on a half planned camping trip in a few weeks :)
Still looking into the idea of starting making lampwork beads. I know it involves more equipment than i want to buy immediately, and more secure outside space than i have, but have found a couple of demonstrations to go to and have a look. Maybe then go on a course to learn more and see if I have any aptitude and see where it takes me.

Its been a while, but I thought it was time to stop lurking, and post something.
Myself and the lovely dog_o_war are currently in the process of moving to our new place, much bigger than our current abode, and close to Beeston train station (and therefore the joys of the Vic).
work is hectic as usual, this years students are fairly demanding, but at least they are enthusiastic and want to learn.
Nikki and Dans handfasting in macc at the beginning of Nov was wonderful. Great venue, and everyone had fun, I hope. (Dan looked a bit terrified, granted, but it passed). madame_morbid did a great job with the hair and make-up, Nikki looked so serene and stunning :)
Have the rest of the week off work to play with boxes. Not fun, but worth it in the end :)

4:14 pm - screws fall in and screws fall out
|
its been a while. I have indeed spent some of that time doing unusually girly stuff, like buying clothes and looking at new shoes. Hair appointment after work tonight. Maybe is all related to joining the dark side (weight watchers) and losing half a stone (and counting)
The politics of work spiral on as usual. People getting sick of their job, and failing to do it properly, space shifting directives (no new office!)
I have really been missing all my mates in Macclesfield this last few weeks. The lovely the_silverwolf turned a bit older last week, and I hope the celebrations went well (tried and failed to get hold of him to find out, hope all is well). Have been wearing the most expensive chicken sandwich as well, which always makes me remember the good times (sod the rest of it)
I think I need to get out and about a bit more at the moment. Hopefully the driving practice willl take us far and wide. I havent yet driven enough to not feel a tad nervous driving alone, a situation I am hoping to rectify. dog_o_war is helping by coming out with me, sitting in the front seat pointedy reading his magazine. Cracking!
Happy weekends one and all :)

4:29 pm - Thought it was time for a proper update
|
The last few weeks.
Valentines day was the lovely dog_o_war s 30th birthday, so we both took the week off to go and do silly things. Unfortunately we started off with the daftest of all, taking the bike in for its first full service since he collected her. We wandered off to the National Space Centre and had fun there playing with things that go ‘whoosh’ and pressing buttons :) Unfortunately when we got back to seee the man, Houston did indeed have a problem. V. low oil pressure on the bike, and in the words of the guy doing the work ‘If it were mine, I wouldn’t ride it’ Gave us a lift to the train station and we headed back, decided to get off in Beeston and go for a pint in the Victoria Inn (mmm, pint). Bumped into Soph on train, and got Helen from theirs. Was grand to see them both again :)
Then, the birthday. Managed to make him smile again with the 30 pressies idea (one was a rucksack, in which I managed to hide 29 other pressies – bottle of mead, CDs, DVDs, bits of stuff. Took about 45 minutes to open. Down to Brum that day, and his parents had cooked a lovely meal for us, and a few mates. Visiting peeps next day in brum, then a stunning Chinese buffet at the Wing Wah (sushi, teppan-yaki, chocolate fountain). Merry Hell next day, and meeting a few of his mates for beer later. Back to Notts Friday for beer with Andy and alighieri. My folks came over Saturday with my ickle car (so very happy, has taken me several years, and much hassle to achieve). Out for a pootle on Sunday, and only stalled once. Not bad in 3 hours :)
Week at work. Humph.
Then it was time for the Macc invasion. Nikki and Dan came down on the Friday for an alleged quiet night at the Heavy metal Karaoke at the Sal. fiendil and conspiracychild put in an appearance and we were lured (or were they?) off to the old Vic, for a night of random silliness. the_silverwolf and Vikki joined us just before we went for a fry-up on Saturday. Afternoon of shops and beer, followed by an evening of beer. Started in the Pit for keyoke_1 s birthday, had a chance to catch up with many peeps I haven’t seen in a while which was grand. Then on to the Old Boots. By this point I was flagging slightly, but I got news that a mate of mine from Swindon was in City. Fair woke me up, and was ace as City was part of the plan all along. Unfortunately we hadn’t counted on the doorstaff at City, who refused entry to 2 of the group on the grounds they looked under 21 and had no ID (they were 21 and 28). And they seemed to enjoy doing it, which kinda soured things. They went back to the boots, and told me to go in and see Linda. There with her sisters, and had a good, if short, night. Met up with the macc lot for a trip to the toby carvery on Priory Island for Sunday lunch, then they headed back.
Another week at work trying to get a lab sorted for an inspection.
Which brings us to weekend just gone – dog_o_war went off to Brum to finish his birthday celebrations. I had a quiet night Friday as I was in work Saturday morning. Met up with Karen and her new guy, and Helen and Shaun for beer, food and a spot of shopping after work. Out with fiendil, Andy and Beck in the evening, in the Mogul-E-Azam having a large curried platter :)
And another week at work. More shiny things (including bike manuals) appeared off eBay. And now weds afternoon, todays practicals are over, and I know what needs doing for tomorrow. Just so very tired.

12:58 pm - daytime TV - death of the soul
|
First day back in work today, and shattered I am. Just had a week and a half of with a bad cold which then turned into sinusitis and an ear infection. I know theres a lot of this going around. I didnt realise how tired coming back to work would make me.
Also I am going to have to fiddle with the options on this journal so it keeps more friends entries...it only gives me the last 30, which doesnt cover the time I have been off.
Hope you are all well :)

4:15 pm - feeling strangley better
|
Now feeling smilier and more at one with the world. Work is a bit more useful now the people I needed to talk to are back from their Christmas festivities, and all the things that were bugging me yesterday are in progress. Palpable relief :)
Not feeling as close to previous problems either, which is pleasing.
A happy new year to all and sundry! Heres hoping for a large shiny 2006!!!!

10:23 am - shopping
|
Grand day out yesterday!!! Three of us took an afternoon off work (I used up another big chunk of the overtime I had to work as a result of practicals to assist with many miles away, the rest goes this afternoon) and went shopping. The idea was to do a 'Trinny and Susannah' on me. A blitz on suitable shops in town and now I have 2 new pairs of trousers (1 jeans, 1 smart), a new velvet jacket, a new shirt and another top, all of which please me greatly. I also now know what size I am in said shops, and that some changing rooms are better than others. Thankfully none were those scary communal efforts. Thinking of taking new stuff to wedding at weekend, and wearing for party season at work next week.
Also considering ordering a few beads for practise tiaras and still trying valiantly to souce correct sizes. Will know much more when see fabric it needs to match though :)
Christmas shopping is still ongoing and nearly done, hoping to write cards tonight. Also now have somemore info on the possible car, so am going to follow that up with a hint of an insurance quote soon.
Happy weekends one and all :)

4:21 pm - It's like the pounding of jackhammers in my mind!!!!
|
Workmen in the department today, removing the concrete/insulation floor from the ex-cold room across the small corridor from my office. Nothing to stop the dust or noise except an ill fitting door. They have been at this for a lot of the day. Wondering if I should have been provded with a dust mask and ear defenders for the duration. How attractive.
Bright side, over the first few months of next year I can go see Sick Of It All, the Wonderstuff (maybe) and Less Than Jake at either Rock City or the Rescue Rooms. Not sure about SOIA in the RC basement though, could get scary, especially if anyone tries a wall of death.
Getting somewhere on the Christmas shopping nightmare. Ordered Poi and book that my folks are getting me, and sorted out stuff for the lovely other half today. Just a couple more bits to get, cards to write and send. Still so not in the mood for it all.
Enjoyed the moot last night, very interesting Hedgewitch talk :)

Not a great deal to report. Has been insanely busy at work, and I have had a particularly annoying cold. Had a visit from Macc a few weekends back, and it was lovely to see everyone again, and meet a couple of new people. Unfortunately was too ill by the following weekend to go own there and visit which was a shame.
Planning on joining the Notts Uni TKD society sometime very soon. When i get round to it.
More imminent, I am off home to ponder things and stuff. Have a variety of creative projects on the go....one big thing for late next year I need to source bits for, a repair/rearrange job for someone here, and an attempted recreation of a shiny thing I saw worn to an awards ceremony.
Would love to go nightschool and do metalwork and jewellery making stuff :)

Spent about a week over the summer re-writing one of the course practicals. Involves individual sessions with each student lasting 1.5 hours. And they use every second of it. Its preparing media - calculations, weighing, adding stocks, pH and all that. Very tiring with 4 in one day.
Fiendils getting old soon :) We just had our 10th anniversary of meeting, went for a lovely curry at the Mogul in town.
Things are going well with new housemate, just need a few more lists and rotas to make my life complete. Or at least better organised.
Knitting myself a warm fluffy scarf at the moment. How domesticated. Me, sitting on sofa, knitting and dog_o_war sitting at the table painting miniatures.
How do I do the thing that makes LJ names come up in blue with a little person in front of them????

4:11 pm - Mmmm, ice cream :)
|
The new year of students are here, looks like a max of 8 which is not great, but I think it should be a good year.
And speaking of years, its gonna be my 10 year anniversary of meeting fiendil next week (approximately). That doesnt make me feel old. At all. Especially as that was at the start of my second year at Uni. Eeeek!
Not sleeping too well at the moment, keep waking up feeling all crampy and its no fun at all. Been spending a lot of time and effort trying to shoehorn dog_o_war into my tiny little house with me, cos its all official now....its our (rented) house :)
Found by darkest_deeds, and borrowed by me
BROWNIE BATTER! You scored 77% SWEET, 62% CHUNKY, and 59% UNIQUE! |

Mmmm....you are a very sweet mix indeed! You are warm, loving, and caring to all those around you, but you're not boring in the least! You have a wild streak and a creative, unique streak, too. You are a great friend, an interesting person, and you know how to have fun without ending up crouching over a toilet bowl. Nice! |

Another years students have just had their results and finished now. Next lot start in 2 weeks time. Just had the cheese and wine end of course buffet thing. It feels like a bit of an anticlimax now, is what all this weeks examinations have been leading up to, and now they are off and away.
Brighter note, off on holiday tonight. Meeting dog_o_war in town after work, coach to Leeds, Mum and Dad picking us up, then across to collect dog_o_war's new bike. Heading off for a week in Scotland (after getting Red taxed) on saturday morning.
Then new jobs for the lovely man on the Monday we get back!

12:45 pm - Holidays are comin....
|
Last day at work for a week. Mmmm, holidays :) Lat day of interweb access for a week (eek!) Birthday on Monday, so planning to not do very much at all that day :) Thinking of trying to go for a few drinkies Monday night. Problem there being other half has a job interview on Tuesday morning. Maybe just a drink.
Want to go and se the pre-raphaelites at the castle before the exhibition goes in a few days. Tuesday or after for that when most other people are back at work I think.
Rest of the time will probably be spent attempting to declutter the world.

And more pilfed from the_silverwolf :)
Dawn Summers 54% amorality, 54% passion, 63% spirituality, 54% selflessness |
| Dawn is a person driven by her love for her friends and her desire to make a difference. Perhaps you are, too. You're willing to do whatever is necessary to do what is right for those you care about, and sometimes this can get you in a little bit of trouble. Most of all, however, you have a heart of gold. Congratulations! |

Pilfed from the_silverwolf :)
Very Well-Rounded
You have: 62% SCIENTIFIC INTUITION and 62% EMOTIONAL INTUITION</b> |
| The graph on the right represents your place in Intuition 2-Space. As you can see, you scored above average on emotional intuition and above average on scientific intuition. (Weirdly, your emotional and scientific intuitions are equally strong.) |
|
Your Emotional Intuition score is a measure of how well you understand people, especially their unspoken needs and sympathies. A high score score usually indicates social grace and persuasiveness. A low score usually means you're good at Quake.
Your Scientific Intuition score tells you how in tune you are with the world around you; how well you understand your physical and intellectual environment. People with high scores here are apt to succeed in business and, of course, the sciences. | |
|
My test tracked 2 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender:
|
You scored higher than 99% on Scientific |
|
You scored higher than 0% on Interpersonal |

4:13 pm - Hopes and films
|
Someone at works other half has been admitted to A&E with chest pains. I really hope they are going to be alright, cos they are lovely people. Spent about half an hour charging round trying to find em to break the news, and make sure they got down there.
Spent yesterday evening in the cinema. Not exactly planned, went to see Madagascar at 5.30, then noticed Charlie and the Chocolate Factory started 15 mins after I got out of Madagascar, so saw that as well.
Madagascar pretty good. All the representations of lemurs as little steaks made me think of the_silverwolf.
Charlie great! JD still looking rather nice, and they had in some of the bits I liked from the book that the first film (Gene Wilder) was missing. Tempted to go see that again. and again.
I hope everyone is OK. Really really do.
